Stephensons Knives was started in August 2008. After discovering how difficult it was to find a decent hunting & skinning knives, and wading through stacks of game & wildlife magazines, it was something I HAD to do! Being an avid woodsman with extensive hunting experience, I set out to craft quality, durable utility items ensuring that each piece also held strong aesthetic appeal. The result ? Beautifully crafted, individually unique Hunting Knives that would choose the man who would wield them!
The Stephensons Knife pouches are designed with a leather “riempie” to allow a quick-release of your Knife, and allows your knife to be carried horizontally on your leather belt.
During the Bloemfontein Knife show Stephensons Knives were awarded the Best Drawn Knife certificate, given in recognition of new Knife Makers. As a knife maker, this can only be deemed a privelage.
A genuine respect for South African Wildlife is reflected in the craftsmanship of each and every knife that leaves my hands; handles created from exotic hardwood, animal bones, warthog tooth or kudu horn & genuine South African leather, merged to produce a truly African masterpiece.
One special knife project for 2010 is a Collectors' range celebrating South Africa's indigenous trees.
Our knives are well known for their outstanding value and durability. Only the finest Bohler N690 stain less steel, heat treated to 58 - 60Rc is used to ensure the highest quality and to create an edge that delivers superior performance. No automated machinery is used in the proc ess of creating the knives - a ll knives are truly made by hand.
Lyon's Custom Knives specialises in practical, handmade hunting and folding knives. Drawing from experience in the hunting field, the knives are designed to satisfy a hunters’ desire to own a well-made practical knife that will last a lifetime.
The love of nature is expressed in the use of African hardwoods as well as other natural materials, such as animal horn, bone and warthog tusk for the handles of the knives. This does, however, not preclude the use of synthetic materials such as micarta, corian etc - some for durability, some for beauty, others for bragging rights or for ease of maintenance, but all of them interesting to work with.
